Southampton defender Jan Bednarek has interest from France and Germany this month and could be set for a ‘sensational’ departure.
WP SportoweFakty and Sport-90 cover the player today and how there may be a small battle for his signature in the winter window.
Starting with the Polish press, they report that while Bednarek is fighting to get Southampton back into the Premier League at the first time of asking interest in him is growing.
According to their information, Stade Rennais are interested in the Polish international and he would be keen on the potential switch if it is offered to him.
They want to sign a central defender this month after failing to get one in the summer despite their best efforts and sporting director Florian Maurice admitted in an interview that it was at the top of his list of priorities.
Their money is limited, though, and WP SportoweFakty’s information is that Southampton’s current asking price may be out of their reach.
That would be good news for Union Berlin, who are also exploring a possible deal for the central defender this month.
They could be on the hunt for a replacement for Leonardo Bonucci this month and if that is the case, Bednarek would be on their list according to Sport-90.
They say that the Germans were interested in the Southampton man in the summer, when it was assumed, he would leave. They were ready to put €10m on the table but Bednarek instead signed a new deal at Saint Mary’s and the deal never happened.
Their interest has not gone away, however, and a loan with a purchase option may not be possible if they play their cards correctly.
It’s all ifs and buts from both sources at this point but the interest is there, and it could be something that develops throughout this month should either decide to move.
