Southampton defender Kevin Danso says he didn’t have to think twice about joining the club this summer.
Danso joined the Saints on deadline day of the transfer window in a season-long loan deal from FC Augsburg, with Ralph Hasenhüttl turning to Danso when other targets seemingly fell by the wayside.
Danso’s arrival was a case of Hasenhüttl using his knowledge for Southampton’s gain, with Danso, an Austrian centre back playing in the Bundesliga, the kind of under the radar signing that the former RB Leipzig boss specialises in.
While few Southampton fans will have known all about Danso before his arrival at their club, it seems that wasn’t reciprocated.
Instead, the 21-year-old, who grew up in Milton Keynes, says he knew all about the South Coast club before their interest as his brother is currently staying in the city.
And it was that, coupled with other key factors, that made the move a perfect match as far as he was concerned.
“I did not have to think about it (the move)” he told Laola1.
“My brother was studying in Southampton; I already knew the city. In addition, Southampton has produced many great players: Virgil van Dijk, Theo Walcott, Gareth Bale, Sadio Mane.
“And then there is also Ralph Hasenhüttl as a coach, who also likes young players. It was a perfect match.”
