Celtic’s Matt O’Riley has ended up on Southampton’s radar, and they are keen to snatch him away from Brendan Rodgers’ side this summer.
That’s according to TuttoMercatoWeb, who say Atalanta must ‘watch out’ for Southampton in the race to sign the 23-year-old.
The midfielder’s impressive performances for Celtic have caught the attention of other clubs, including La Dea and Southampton.
Atalanta have already made attempts to sign the Denmark international. The report states their last bid was around €17m plus €2m bonuses, and Celtic have rejected it because they are convinced they can ‘earn more’ from his sale in this window.
The Serie A side like O’Riley and his arrival won’t depend on Teun Koopmeiners’ potential exit. They will have to make a decision in the next few days, on whether or not to make an improved offer to Brendan Rodgers’ side.
Meanwhile, the Europa League winners are warned about Southampton’s interest. TMW claim the Saints have ‘made a concrete move’ to sign Celtic star in the ‘last few hours’.
If Russell Martin’s side were to make an offer that convinces Celtic, they can get ahead of Atalanta in the transfer race.
