Crystal Palace defender Chris Richards’ future has been far from secure. Some more information has emerged from those close to the USA international.
The centre-back has been key for the Eagles since joining from Bayern Munich in 2022. Last season, he played 35 times in the Premier League and was vital in their march towards Conference League glory.
He has also become important for the national team, featuring for the United States at the World Cup.
This has led to Italian clubs being interested in a deal, as Richards’ Crystal Palace contract runs out in 2027.
Now, it looks like January could be an option for him.
Details arriving from RocNation
RocNation’s Head of Football Alan Redmond spoke to AdnKronos about several players on the agency’s client list.
Redmond was also asked about Richards’ future at Crystal Palace. He revealed that some clubs have already asked about him.
He said: “Whoever wanted to change teams, did. We’ve had some inquiries from Serie A clubs about Chris Richards, the Crystal Palace defender.”
Redmond also added that something could move in January, if not the summer.
“In his case, perhaps something could happen in January; we’ll see. As for the rest, it’s more likely that certain deals will be discussed again in the summer of 2027.”
Attention clearly growing
Redmond’s comments clearly indicate that Richards could soon become hot property in the market. His possible free agent status will only help Italian clubs, with Inter Milan monitoring the situation.
At the same time, he does appear uncertain about an exit. This should hand Crystal Palace the chance to possibly make progress over a renewal.
Everything will come down to the 26-year-old’s wishes, though. If the London club fail to qualify for Europe again, it could hamper the player’s ambitions, especially if big clubs come calling.
