Earlier today, we covered the big claims made by CMTV pundit Fernando Mendes, who said Manchester City are signing Sporting players Nuno Mendes and Pedro Gonçalves in January.
The former Lions fullback claimed that ‘he heard’ the transfers will be done soon. And it turns out that he reported another move involving a Premier League club as well.
According to Mendes, Everton are signing Sporting midfielder Matheus Nunes. And unlike those Manchester City deals, the player will be heading to England this summer.
Once again, the pundit didn’t have any details on how much the signing will cost. He just says he heard about it ‘two minutes ago’ and the player is ‘already sold to Everton’.
The saga involving Everton and Matheus Nunes has been on for a couple of months now. Even though the Toffees were said to be close to signing the midfielder in a €20m deal, the rumours disappeared for a while as soon as Nuno Espírito Santo was ruled out of the options for the manager job.
Recent claims even said Rafa Benitez was interested in the signing, with reports claiming the talks ‘could be resumed’ as the Spaniard ‘liked what he saw and heard’ about the midfielder.
Since then, this is the first time we hear someone saying the transfer is close to happening.
