The initially enthusiasm and hype around Federico Chiesa at Liverpool is being replaced by a realisation that adaptation is not going to be easy.
The Italian faces fitness issues at Anfield, and is struggling to get to grips with Premier League football, something which Arne Slot himself has spoken about.
Chiesa has played only 78 minutes in all competitions this season and because of his situation, the idea of a January exit is slowly gaining prominence and clubs are looking at the player with some interest.
Calciomercato’s Daniele Longo has also looked at that possibility, stating that it is ‘almost impossible’ for Chiesa to climb right up the Liverpool pecking order. Despite that, the winger will soon seek clarification from Slot about his role at the club and a meeting is expected to take place.
His exit is complicated because it’s stated he earns €7.5m per season and his deal at Anfield runs until the summer of 2028.
While it’s believed only English clubs can afford that figure, a loan move to Italy is presented as a shock possibility. The report mentions that Como are an interested party, and AC Milan are also keeping their eyes peeled for the Liverpool man.
A lot depends on what the Reds feel about the situation and Chiesa’s meeting with Slot will be key. Such a quick loan back would obviously be a surprise, and suggest transfer failure rather than a commitment to seeing the player adapt.
