According to a report in the Portuguese media, Boavista signing the likes of Osman Kakay could be a boost for the Porto based club as they stare relegation in the face.

Kakay has just signed for Boavista after his contract with Queens Park Rangers expired at the end of last season.

Jornal de Notícias today report on Boavista’s winter transfer, which has seen nine players arrive at the club, including the former QPR defender. Ex-Chelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkel was also brought in as Boavista look to avoid relegation to the second tier.

The Portuguese newspaper believe these signings could help in Boavista’s fight against relegation but in reality it’s a huge gamble. They are currently bottom of the Primeira Liga table, six points from safety.

Kakay spent nine years at QPR after coming through the west London side’s youth system. He went on to play 113 games for the Championship side, but left when it was announced his contract wouldn’t be extended beyond last summer.

Boavista now have nine new players, the majority of which haven’t played for months, and now wait to see if their almighty gamble to avoid relegation can work.
