West Ham United, Leeds United and Everton are among the clubs to have shown interest in Club Brugge’s Raphael Onyedika, according to Wednesday’s edition of Gazet van Antwerpen.
Back in June, journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported West Ham and Everton were in pole and the following month, Africa Foot stated the Hammers had made a formal approach to sign him.
Along with West Ham, Leeds United and Everton, Paris FC, AS Roma, Sevilla, Real Betis, Galatasaray, Stuttgart, and Eintracht Frankfurt were also keen on signing the 24-year-old.
It’s claimed the midfielder was ‘absolutely set on a new challenge’ and the Belgian club were open to selling him in the summer window.
Towards the end of the window, Eintracht Frankfurt made a concrete attempt and had shown willingness to meet Club Brugge’s demands. They didn’t end up tabling an offer.
Sources close to the player now inform GVA that the German club were more focused on attacker and the other interested clubs also ‘miscalculated their timing’ and focused on other areas of the pitch.
Despite interest from several clubs, he wasn’t sold, and the newspaper say this hasn’t impacted his performances this season.
GVA report ‘he’s shining like never before’ and if the Nigeria international were to extend his good run, he could have an opportunity to leave Club Brugge in January. It’s unclear whether West Ham, Leeds or Everton will look at Onyedika at that time.
