According to claim in the Turkish media, Sheffield United midfielder Alex Matos is on the verge of signing for Göztepe.

With the expected departure of Anthony Dennis, who has been linked with Coventry City in recent days, the Super Lig side are looking to bring in a replacement.

Sabah today report on Göztepe’s pursuit for the Sheffield United player. The Izmir club impressed in their first season back in the Turkish topflight and want to build on this.

Agreement for Sheffield United player

The Turkish newspaper report Matos has agreed on a move to Göztepe despite only arriving at the Bramhall Lane during the last summer window. Sheffield United have also reached an agreement to sell the attacking midfielder.

Matos is now expected to travel to Turkey this week to complete his move to Göztepe subject to a medical. The transfer fee hasn’t been disclosed at this stage.

Matos signed a three-year deal with the Blades in September, but was loaned out to Oxford United in January. He made just eight appearances for the south Yorkshire side last season and is contracted until June 2028.

With the pending departure of Dennis, the 23-year-old is expected to fill void left by the Nigerian. Last week we covered report Coventry City were in the race to sign the player and have already made their move.

Coventry City table offer

It’s claimed the Premier League side made an offer for Dennis, which was rejected. Göztepe are looking for offers in the region of €7m for the 22-year-old.

Transfer talks with the English club are expected to continue, with their chairman Rasmus Ankersen travelling to the UK to push through a deal.

Coventry City should expect to face competition to sign the midfielder following reports Trabzonspor are also interested.

He’s contracted until June 2027 and subsequently they are looking to cash in this summer.
