Reports from Argentina state Sheffield United have made an offer to sign Fiorentina defender Nicolás Valentini.
Journalist Germán García Grova claims Sheffield United and Alavés have both submitted offers for the centre-back. According to the report, Valentini is keen on taking the next step in his career. However, Fiorentina will make the final decision on his future.
Italian insider outlet Labaro Viola have picked up the claim from Argentina. They also state the Serie A side are evaluating the two proposals after talks with Brazilian side Grêmio broke down.
Fiorentina yet to use defender
Nicolás Valentini has yet to make a competitive appearance for Fiorentina despite joining the club on a free transfer from Boca Juniors.
The Italian side immediately sent him on loan to Hellas Verona after his arrival. During the second half of the 2024-25 campaign, he made 14 Serie A appearances. Later, the loan was extended for the whole of last season.
The 24-year-old featured in another 22 league matches in 2025-26, establishing himself as one of Verona’s most reliable defenders despite not contributing any goals or assists.
Valentini is regarded as a strong defensive presence. He is particularly effective in one-v-one situations, covering space behind the back line and making timely tackles. Standing at 1.84m, he is usually deployed as a left-sided centre-back.
Blades look at defensive reinforcement
Sheffield United’s interest suggests they are exploring defensive additions before the transfer window closes. Valentini is now available after Fiorentina decided he is likely to leave this summer.
There is no indication yet whether either Sheffield United or Alavés have moved ahead in negotiations, nor have details of the financial offers been disclosed.
For now, the next step rests with Fiorentina, who must decide whether either bid is sufficient to sanction the Argentine’s permanent departure after two productive loan spells at Hellas Verona.
