We like Edimilson Fernandes at Sport Witness, mostly because we’ve seen him go through all of the ups and downs in his West Ham career, and he’s always given really honest interviews when talking to his local press about his time in London.

The versatile midfielder struggled with injury last season, which heavily limited his game time with the Hammers, but once he recovered, David Moyes used him more often than not.

Whether that will still be the case with Manuel Pellegrini now in charge remains to be seen, but there’s a club in Italy allegedly interested in the 22-year-old’s services.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Sampdoria are considering the Switzerland international to bolster their midfield for next season alongside free agent Stéphane M’Bia, who left Hebei China Fortune in February after two years in the Chinese Super League.

This interest is further backed by local Genoa newspaper Il Secolo XIX, who also have the West Ham youngster as a target for the Serie A side.

There’s no mention of how Sampdoria would approach a transfer, but our bet would be a loan with a view to buy, since that’s how most Italian clubs initiate potential deals with Premier League clubs at first.

It allows them to spread the payment for FFP regulations, as well as gives them time to decide if they want to make the deal permanent after seeing the player in action.
