Napoli are perhaps the Serie A club with the most enthusiastic local journalists when it comes to transfers.

Throughout the summer market there were endless claims about moves for the club’s players, and whilst some came true, such as Allan moving to Everton, other potential deals fell away.

Kalidou Koulibaly was heavily linked with a transfer, and Manchester City were presented as the likely destination before they signed Ruben Dias from Benfica instead. Liverpool were also linked, although the claims about the Reds often felt like an effort to pressure City into offering more.

Given Virgil van Dijk’s serious knee injury, Liverpool are being linked with multiple defenders ahead of the next transfer window, and Italian journalist Fabio Santini has jumped in headfirst.

He claims Jurgen Klopp’s side are offering €70-75m to take Koulibaly away from Napoli in the January window. AreaNapoli quote him saying: “Attention: I have sensational news about Kalidou Koulibaly. Manchester City and United are on the Senegalese defender as well as PSG. The club that is more serious for the Senegalese is Liverpool. The Reds offer to Napoli a figure between 70 and 75 million euros, the sum that De Laurentiis asks.”

Aurelio De Laurentiis, the Napoli owner, has long been pushing for a big fee for his defender. If Santini is correct, and it’s a big if at this stage, then the Liverpool offer would be acceptable.
