Maxime Gonalons to Brighton is back, ladies and gentlemen.
Originating from France back in January, the idea that the Seagulls were interested in the AS Roma midfielder was pushed by Le10 Sport, only to be turned down by the French midfielder as he’d only arrived in the Italy capital six months prior.
The idea of an exit in the summer has been ongoing throughout the second half of the season, but was denied by his agent, who told Calciomercato his client would be staying next year.
On Friday, the very same Calciomercato are reporting the defensive midfielder could return to France for €5m ‘even if the more concrete interest arrives from Villarreal and Brighton’.
Originally arriving from Lyon for that very same amount, if the Italian website are to be believed, then Roma would be happy to recoup that money and cut ties with the 29-year-old.
Having secured safety from relegation back to the Championship, the Seagulls will now be turning their attention to next season, and adding a former France international to their ranks would certainly be a step towards strengthening their squad ahead of a tough 2018-19 campaign.
If Gonalons really is available at €5m, it’s hardly a huge risk.
