Tuesday’s edition of Corriere dello Sport reports Francesco Calvo has resigned from his back office role at Juventus and is set to move to Aston Villa.

It’s seen as quite a big deal, with the newspaper saying the news has shaken people around the Serie A club. Juventus are currently in a tough battle to finish in Italy’s top four and therefore qualify for the Champions League. It’s an all hands on deck moment so the last thing they’ll have wanted is unnecessary drama off the pitch.

Therefore, Calvo’s timing will not be appreciated.

Corriere dello Sport state the following about Calvo: ‘Director of revenues and institutional relations, one of the most exposed managers of the company, who was also elected federal councillor for Serie A in February.’

He’s obviously not someone who was expected to just up sticks and head for the Premier League, hence the shock around the situation. There’s no talk of Aston Villa having to pay any compensation or of Calvo having to work a period of gardening leave before taking up a position with the Birmingham club.

Corriere dello Sport continue with: ‘Calvo has represented Juventus in all institutional offices in recent years, in the league and in the federation, while at the same time dealing with the club’s commercial strategies and the search for a shirt sponsor, not yet concluded after a season without a brand on the black and white uniforms.’

Aston Villa fans will have to hope he was being picky over the shirt sponsorship because taking so long to not find a deal isn’t the best endorsement.

This is his second stint at Juventus and he largely missed the whole Plusvalenza scandal, where transfer values were manipulated to make the club’s accounts look better.

Corriere dello Sport state: ‘Say goodbye to Calvo’
