Ruben Neves spent much of the summer being linked with a move to Barcelona.
There was a confidence in the Catalan media that the Wolves player would be available for a cut-price fee, and that Jorge Mendes would be able to work some transfer magic to get the player to the Camp Nou.
That, the reduced fee part, always seemed unlikely unless Wolves had previously committed to allowing such a deal. Nothing took shape and the 25-year-old started the current season with the Premier League club.
Rumours have already started about a Barcelona switch next summer, with some claims even suggesting a January move could be what the Blaugrana desire.
Ruben Neves himself has now had his say on claims of a switch to the Catalan side, and it’s fair to say he’s gone full in on transfer flirting.
Speaking to Canal 11, Mundo Deportivo quote him as saying: “Who wouldn’t want to play for Barcelona? If you ask in general, all the players want to play for Barca, one of the best clubs in the world. It’s a privilege for me to be associated with this team.”
On Wolves, the Portugal international said: “I’m going to do my job. I’m going to focus as much as possible here because we have a lot of competition. I have to focus as much as possible on Wolves. Having a good season here, things will come very naturally.”
With a contract expiring in June 2024, it looks like Ruben Neves’ days at Wolves are numbered.
