Sporting manager Ruben Amorim has denied that he was interviewed by Liverpool.
The was said by the manager himself in his press conference ahead of the league match against Gil Vicente.
With so many rumours about his move to Liverpool, that question soon showed up in the interview, and in quotes brought by Cabine Desportiva the coach dismissed that.
“This is the last time I’m going to talk about my future. There’s been no interview, let alone an agreement. The only thing we all want is to be champions with Sporting, and nothing will change,” said Ruben Amorim.
“I’m Sporting’s coach. There’s been no interview with any club, no agreement with any club. I’m just focussed, as always, on defending my club. As I no longer have anything to say, there will be no interviews or agreements with the Sporting coach. That subject is completely settled, whether for this club or another.”
Sporting are completely focused on winning the league, currently standing top of the table, so it’s actually no surprise that the coach denies that he’s been speaking to another club, especially at such a crucial stage of the season.
Reports in the Portuguese media have already claimed that the talks with Liverpool are not advanced, with no interview taking place, so there’s a chance they could be right as well, even though strong stories from elsewhere insist that the conversation actually happened.
It’s unlikely we’ll have an official development until the Portuguese season ends, or maybe they could all announce it as soon as Sporting actually guarantee the league title.
