Robin Koch had a four-year-long stint at Leeds United and after spending an initial loan stint at Eintracht Frankfurt, he joined the Eagles on a permanent basis earlier this year.
The 28-year-old is firmly cemented as an important player at Eintracht, and could vent be the club’s new captain.
On his loan from Leeds, Koch played 31 times in the Bundesliga last season, and the deal was always likely to be made permanent.
He’s spoken to BILD Frankfurt in what was an insightful interview and mentioned his Leeds United skipper Liam Cooper, now a free agent, as one of his inspirations when it comes to being a captain.
The German was asked about his role models for the role and said: “I have played with a few who did a really great job. Seppl, for example, who was extremely important to us even though he wasn’t on the pitch much. The same goes for Ilkay Gündogan in the national team.
“He is a bit quieter by nature, but he always says something in the right situation. He gives the team so much security. Precisely because of the calmness he exudes. Or Liam Cooper in Leeds, who is generally a bit louder.”
Koch had captained the Eagles last season and he has previously spoken about his pride in leading the side and how much he likes to lead younger players.
The defender explained that whilst he may not be as loud as Cooper, he certainly has the capacity to raise his voice and anger if things aren’t going the way they should.
“When something isn’t going well in training, or when we don’t get things done in a game. I can get loud because it annoys me. But no one has ever complained because they know that I’m not picking on anyone, I just want to win and do the best for the team.”
