Last summer, Arsenal reportedly showed willingness to pay €60m for Martín Zubimendi, but he wasn’t keen on leaving Real Sociedad. The midfielder has long been on the north London club’s agenda and continues to be a target for them.
Earlier this month, SportBild reported Mikel Arteta is using his connections to help Arsenal beat Bayern Munich to the 25-year-old in the next window. The manager looks key to this deal, given the links between himself and the player’s background.
Along with the Bundesliga winners, Juventus and AC Milan are also looking at the Gunners target, according to Calciomercato.
The Spain international has been one of the star players for the La Liga side and his fine displays have resulted in interest from clubs across Europe.
The report adds he earns €4m per year and Milan won’t have major problems matching that. The Turin club are also interested and have been following him for some time.
Zubimendi’s deal lasts until 2027 and has a €60m release clause, which would put him out of the Serie A duo’s reach. At the same time, the report states the clause ‘pushes him towards the Premier League’, where Arsenal are keen on signing him.
Among the interested clubs, Calciomercato state Arsenal are currently ‘in the front row’ to sign the Spaniard.
