Mauricio Pochettino would be the perfect replacement for Antonio Conte at Tottenham should the Italian leave as expected.
That’s according to journalist Gianluca di Marzio, who believes the Argentine should follow Conte in the Spurs hotseat.
It is currently unknown whether Conte will remain at Tottenham beyond the end of this season, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the campaign.
He is yet to commit to an extension and reports in England have made it clear that Tottenham are yet to even discuss the possibility of extending his current deal.
That is likely due to uncertainty around whether Conte wants to stay in London, having been heavily linked with a return to Italy and Juventus for several months.
At the moment it appears he could be leaving, and Tottenham will be on the hunt for a new manager regardless of what happens between now and the end of the season.
And if that proves to be the case, Di Marzio believes that they should turn to their former manager to fill the vacancy.
“I think Pochettino would be the right successor to Conte, for the simple reason that he already knows the ‘Tottenham world’ like the back of his hand,” he told Soccer News.
“That means he will not need an adjustment period in terms of the ins and outs of the club, also in terms of the mentality of Spurs.
“At the moment, Antonio Conte and Tottenham are no longer talking about a contract extension, because Antonio is completely focused on the games and his family. I don’t expect an extension, but that’s my prediction.
“As for Diego Simeone; his defensive style of play will probably not be received too well by Tottenham fans.
“They want to see a team that attacks, a team that tries to play spectacularly with all those offensive-minded players running around there. And that is obviously not a good match with the ‘Diego Simeone mentality’.”
