There’s some confidence in the Italian media that Napoli will be able to seal a deal and take Billy Gilmour away from Brighton & Hove Albion this summer.
Napoli’s pursuit of the midfielder has been a very public one and it’s widely known that their first offer to the Seagulls was rejected immediately.
Corriere dello Sport put that offer at £8m, and it’s claimed a ‘relaunch is coming’ from the Serie A side.
First they want to finalise Gianluca Gaetano’s permanent move to Cagliari, where he spent last season on loan, and then Gilmour will be back on the Napoli agenda.
It’s claimed that the second offer is unlikely to be rejected by Brighton, although there’s no indication of what that offer will be.
Corriere dello Sport believe Napoli can put pressure on Brighton because Gilmour’s contract ends in 2026, but that doesn’t seem to be a pressing issue and underlines the optimism there is in the Italian media.
That optimism may well be crushed unless Napoli seriously improve on that initial bid.
