With a career ending in 2022 after playing for teams in Argentina, Mexico, the Netherlands, France and the United States, Dario Cvitanich played close to 500 games.
Three years of his 18 as a professional footballer were spent at Racing Club in his home country, where he met and played alongside Carlos Alcaraz, currently owned by Southampton but on loan at Juventus.
The former striker was asked by F90 about the midfielder, who could end up leaving the Saints permanently if the Turin side pay €49.5m this summer, and revealed a strange anecdote, relayed by TNT Sports.
He said: “When he was 19, one day he said to me ‘I’m tired of life’. I replied: ‘You’re 19 years old, do you realise the future you can have if you focus?’
“Well, he went to Southampton, now he’s at Juventus? We used to talk a lot at Racing, I liked him and I like him a lot.”
A strange quote to say the least, but everyone, including Southampton, will be glad that Alcaraz continued to dedicate himself to football.
The then Premier League side bought the player for €13.65m back in January of last year, where he stayed for a full year before being loaned out to Juventus during the last transfer window.
We have to now wait and see whether the Serie A side cough up the required money this summer to buy him from Southampton, but the player is expected to miss the next few weeks after it was announced he suffered a hamstring injury in training last Wednesday.
