Aston Villa’s plans for Spanish side Real Union appear to be gearing up, with the Spanish’s side latest signing perhaps an indication of how the partnership could benefit the Premier League side moving forwards.
Heraldo de Aragon cover the club today and their latest signing Marcos Luna, who is arriving on loan from Zaragoza until the end of the season.
They explain that the homegrown right-back will play until June 30th for the Basque club, who also have a purchase option to make the move permanent should they wish.
Luna is looking to get his career back on track after injury has curtailed it somewhat in recent years.
He was once highly thought of and Atletico Madrid wanted him for their second team at one point, while he was considered a potential star of the future for parent club Real Zaragoza too.
Indeed, he was ‘always watched by the best youth teams in Spain’ and considered ‘one of the strongest promises’ at Zaragoza in the last five years but hasn’t been able to get regular football so is now joining Union in search of it.
His hope is to get playing time, get back on track and perhaps fulfil that early potential that had once made him sought-after.
And such a move is perhaps a small demonstration of how Union and Aston Villa will benefit each other moving forwards.
The two clubs are now intrinsically linked and perhaps the idea is for the Spanish side to sign player’s like Luna, who are something of a risk but have potential, and if they succeed there is then an easy route to Aston Villa for them.
That’s just speculation on our part but it would make sense, particularly for Villa if they can give themselves an easy foothold in Spain to look at young talent and perhaps sign it up away from competition.
