Normally, when we write a story about Laurent Koscielny, it’s normally regarding an interview he’s done about him saving accordion factories or his so-called poor disciplinary record for France and Arsenal.
Rarely do we get to write about transfer stories for him, mostly because he’s such an important player in Arsène Wenger’s Arsenal team, and he’s never really shown any interest in move from London.
As we all know, though, 2016 hasn’t exactly been the most logical of years, and it kind of makes sense that a rumour about a Koscielny exit would appear this summer.
According to information from Foot Mercato in France, Real Madrid are targeting the France international as a potential replacement for Raphaël Varane, were the young centre-back to leave for another club.
Stories have sent the former Lens starlet to Manchester United and Bayern Munich in recent weeks, and the French website claims Zidane has highlighted the Arsenal man as his top priority to replace him.
Signing a new five-year contract with the club back in 2014, there is still some time left on his current deal, meaning Arsenal will have all the bargaining power they need against Real Madrid.
It’s just a contingency plan for the moment, but it certainly will be interesting to see what the Spanish giants plan on doing if Raphaël Varane does leave.
