Real Betis made late contact to sign Everton striker Beto, but their attempt fell at the first hurdle.

That’s according to ABC Sevilla, who say Betis are rushing through the last hours of the January window and that saw them test the waters for Beto.

They want to sign a forward on loan with an option to buy and believed the striker could be available from Everton. He’s been consistently linked with a return to Italy on a similar deal.

A meeting was held by Betis ‘sports committee’ last night in which they analysed the different options on the table. Beto was considered a possibility as he’s looked to leave Everton throughout this month.

However, the Spanish side were out of luck as Everton’s loss of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Armando Broja and Youssef Chermiti has seen them close the door on an exit for Beto.

He’s now the only fit striker at Goodison Park and David Moyes has been forced to use him. Beto, of course, responded to this with a brace in the 4-0 win over Leicester.

Because of those two factors, signing him has ‘become impossible’ and their late contact was quickly turned away by Everton.
