Spanish newspaper Marca doesn’t often have transfer scoops on Queens Park Rangers, but they’ve got one today.
In a report published on Monday evening, it’s stated the Championship club have reached an agreement to purchase Jonathan Varane.
The 22-year-old made 25 appearances for Sporting Gijon last season, playing as a central midfielder. However, the majority of those were as a substitute and it would be no surprise if he’s keen to get more minutes elsewhere.
Varane will hope QPR and the Championship can provide that for him.
Marca report Sporting are expected to receive around €1.5m from QPR. The transfer talks are now so advanced that it’s believed things could be finalised before the Spanish club return to training on Tuesday.
Earlier, La Nueva España had reported on Varane agreeing personal terms with QPR and the deal being close to a conclusion. They said Sporting had valued the player at around €3m in January and had rejected an offer from Norwich City at that time, which was presumably more than they’re getting from the London club now.
There have been multiple loan offers for Varane and these were all rejected in the hope of a permanent move. Now it just looks a matter of – a very short – time before he arrives at QPR.
