Jesper Lindstrøm is unlikely to remain at Everton permanently in the summer unless there is a big change between now and the end of the season.
That’s according to Jan Molby, via Tipsbladet, who believes the forward has failed to convince Everton into making a permanent move for him.
Lindstrøm joined the Toffees on loan from Napoli in the summer, with Everton holding an option to make the move permanent if they want.
He moved to Merseyside after a difficult year at Napoli following a €30m move from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer of 2023.
The hope was that he could revive himself at Goodison Park and get back to the player who had previously impressed in the Bundesliga, but that is yet to work out.
He struggled to impress under Sean Dyche and, despite an improvement under David Moyes, is yet to register a goal or assist in the Premier League. In fact, he’s managed just one assist in 24 games this season, and that was in a 3-1 win over Tranmere in the EFL Cup back in August.
Those numbers, or lack of them, have left Molby unimpressed and he can’t see Everton paying to make his move permanent.
“What we know about Jesper Lindstrøm is that he has done well in Denmark and Germany. The Bundesliga is a very strong league, and it fit really nicely to Lindstrøm’s way of playing,” he said.
“He has had a hard time in Everton, but the vast majority of players in Everton have had a hard time. The positive about Jesper Lindstrøm right now is that he is allowed to play, also because Jack Harrison cannot find his shape.
“I just think David Moyes has asked him to deliver energy and speed. From there you have to see how far it goes. Jesper Lindstrøm’s problem is that it was probably the sports manager who picked him up and the next problem is that he is only rented with an opportunity to buy.
“The rumours of the purchase price go at about €20m. That, I think, is too much for Everton, so unfortunately my feeling is that he is going back to Naples.”
