It is ‘very probable’ that Chelsea will be able to ‘win’ the transfer battle for Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries, with a deal worth around €60m mooted.
That’s according to Inter Live, who cover the situation around the Dutchman today amid an expected departure from the Italian side in the summer.
They explain that Dumfries has ‘lost the verve’ he enjoyed at the start of the season, leading to discontent among Inter’s fans and plenty of transfer hypotheses being suggested.
Those transfer rumours are ‘running fast’ and big clubs such as Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Manchester United remain ‘very vigilant’ about the player’s status at Inter Milan.
The Serie A side are in ‘absolute need’ of monetising at least one or more sales to raise at least €60m to help balance the books and conduct their own business.
Dumfries is ‘likely to yield’ at least €40m in any potential departure but the hope is that a real auction for his signature could break out and drive that up closer to the €60m that they need.
Even if that auction breaks out, though, the belief is that the highest bidder with an offer of €40m could win the race and it is ‘very probable’ that would be Chelsea.
They’ve shown no hesitation to splash the cash since Todd Boehly’s takeover in the summer, spending in that window and then throughout the January transfer window on players from all over Europe.
The feeling is that they will be in the mix for Dumfries after showing interest since last year and after winning the race for several players last month, they ‘will be the winner once again’ in this potential contest.
