Premier League clubs will, without a doubt, have Morten Hjulmand on their players to watch list. The 25-year-old defensive midfielder did well at Lecce, but is really making a name for himself with Sporting CP.
He’s now been backed to join one of the biggest Premier League clubs, with Tottenham, Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City being named as the five distinct possibilities.
That’s according to Brian Riemer, who has just been announced as Denmark’s national team manager.
In an interview with O Jogo, the former Brentford assistant coach was asked if Hjulmand can make it to a top European side, and answered: “I spent two years in the Premier League and I think he has the necessary qualities to play for the six/seven best clubs in the English league. Tottenham, Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City… At a certain point in his career, I believe he will arrive at one of these teams.
“His character, his leadership, his personality, his communication are not very common in today’s football, and I was at many clubs, in Copenhagen, Brentford, Anderlecht. It reminds us of the defensive midfielders of the past, who controlled the entire game, who led the teams, you don’t see that much nowadays. It’s something rare what Hjulmand has. I’m a big fan of his, I think we’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg with Hjulmand.”
Manchester United and Tottenham have been linked with the Sporting midfielder previously, with claims they’ve specifically scouted him in action for the club.
Manchester City interest makes sense give Sporting’s Hugo Viana is arriving at the club and played a part in signing Hjulmand. Liverpool were linked at the time Ruben Amorim was said to be a candidate to take over from Jurgen Klopp.
And Arsenal, well, the Denmark international midfielder has a Gunners tattoo after being a boyhood fan of the club, so that could aid Mikel Arteta’s side.
