When Manchester City signed Kayky from Fluminense on a €10m deal in the summer of 2021, it even seemed like Pep Guardiola had big plans for him.
That’s because at the time, the City Group signed two players from the Rio de Janeiro side. One was midfielder Metinho, who moved to Troyes, while the winger went straight to England.
Kayky even made a couple of appearances in his first season with Manchester City, but he was sent on loan to Portuguese side Paços Ferreira last summer, where he only stayed for six months.
His spell was interrupted because once the City Group had a takeover at Bahia, they soon decided to send some players there, including from Manchester City, and the winger was one of them, having joined this month on a year-long loan spell.
Kayky was now presented at his new club, and when speaking of why moving back to Brazil at the age of 19, he explained that it was a decision taken with his family.
“These are choices you have to make. When it’s not turning out the way you want it to and you’re young, you have to try to rebuild yourself,” said Kayky (via Bahia Notícias).
“I reached a high level that is football in England and arriving young, having patience to wait. We preferred to return to Brazil to gain confidence and be able to return or follow another path.”
Kayky still has a contract with Manchester City until 2026, and at that age, there’s still time for him to reach his full potential.
