Marseille midfielder Matteo Guendouzi ‘hesitates’ about a move to Aston Villa as it is not a transfer which makes him ‘dream’.
That’s according to Foot Mercato, who say that the player’s attachment to Marseille could ‘encourage him’ to ‘politely refuse’ the approach from Unai Emery.
Guendouzi has been heavily linked with a move to Aston Villa over the last week or so, with it believed Emery is keen on a reunion with the player, whom he worked alongside at Arsenal.
Emery is busy splashing the cash this month to reshape the squad he inherited from Steven Gerrard, with Alex Moreno already signed, striker Jhon Duran on the way and more arrivals anticipated.
FM say that the interest from Aston Villa and Emery, who is a ‘big fan of the player’ and had talked to him recently, had Marseille fans worried they were about to lose an ‘essential’ player.
They confirm that Villa are ‘very interested’ in the player and preparing to make a ‘fabulous offer’ for him but that could be in vain.
According to their information, the potential move to Aston Villa does not make the player ‘dream’ as he is ‘very attached’ to Marseille.
He is not necessarily closing the door to a return to the Premier League but is not all that enamoured at the prospect of a move to a ‘mid-table team’ in England.
Marseille fans, therefore, can hope that they will be able to keep their man, although ‘anything can happen’ before the end of the transfer window.
