Of Fulham’s many disappointing signings in the summer of 2018, André Zambo Anguissa wasn’t the worst and many fans expected him to do well elsewhere this season.
The midfielder had arrived from Marseille in a £22m deal with rave reviews and plenty hoping he would add steel to the Cottagers midfielder.
He was loaned out to Villarreal this summer, where he’s managed to get his career back on track after stagnating at Fulham.
He’s featured eight times for them in La Liga so far, with six of those seeing him play the full 90 minutes and earn rave reviews for those performances.
That’s according to Super Deporte, who cover his resurgence and say he has been ‘indisputable’ for Villarreal manager Javier Calleja.
So much so that it’s now felt that the £25m purchase option included in his loan deal would be ‘more than interesting’ for the Spanish club as he’s only 23-years-old and has ‘a lot of football to show.’
There’s no mention of when Villarreal would look to activate the clause, although it would presumably be next summer.
Regardless, the fact they’re looking at the deal in a good light will come as good news for Fulham, who would be delighted to get their money back, but also a little ponderous about what might have been.
