With a new transfer window open, we get to see Sporting striker Pedro Mendes being linked to Reading once again.
The Royal’s interest in the 21-year-old was first reported a year ago, and continued in the summer, when they were said to be close to landing him.
It turned out Mendes was loaned to Almeria, where he spent the first part of the season. Now since he didn’t get enough playing time in Spain, he’s going back to Sporting, and could finally end up at the Madejski Stadium.
Newspaper Record writes today that the striker ‘should proceed his career at Reading‘, as the deal is ‘well forwarded’.
Record doesn’t make it clear if he’d sign for Reading on a loan deal or a permanent transfer. What they say is that a return to Sporting is ruled out.
Mendes is currently in quarantine following a positive Covid-19 diagnosis, so it should still take a few days until we get a confirmation on his future.
His contract with Sporting runs until 2023, and he’s valued by Transfermarkt at €500k.
