Leeds United are set to complete a move for Werder Bremen midfielder Ilia Gruev, with the completion of the deal ‘imminent’.

That’s according to Deich Stube, who say the transfer is expected to be completed at some point today after a concerted effort from Leeds.

The two clubs are currently working on the final details of the player’s move to Elland Road, with the transfer fee yet to be fixed.

That is a matter of process, though, and according to Deich Stube’s information, Leeds will pay at least €5m for the Bulgarian midfielder.

That is money the German side, who are described as ‘financially troubled’, are more than happy to accept and can put to good use.

Gruev had been a key player for Werder, but the 23-year-old has found himself out of favour under coach Ole Werner this season.

Thus, Werder are happy to let him go and join Leeds before Friday’s deadline and his departure to England is now ‘fixed’. Gruev himself has been seeking a move away given his situation and has ‘found what he was looking for’ at Elland Road.

The belief is that it will be finalised and announced at some point today, with nothing currently in the way other than those final details.

Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, meanwhile, adds that there is a total agreement in place between Leeds and Werder Bremen for a €6m deal and the midfielder is set to have his medical with Leeds today, further indicating a move is close.
