Red Bull Salzburg have a ‘strong interest’ in bringing Leeds United’s Maximilian Wöber back to the club in the winter market.
That’s according to Salzburger Nachrichten, who state the Austrian side will try again after a failed attempt in the summer.
The centre-back joined Leeds from Red Bull Salzburg in 2023 and was on loan at Borussia Mönchengladbach last season.
He was a ‘hot topic’ for his former club in the last window, but the deal didn’t take shape because of the Whites’ demands.
Red Bull Salzburg’s Samson Baidoo and Kamil Piatkowski haven’t impressed this season. This has seen them look for a new centre-back in the next window the focus is on Wöber.
An injury kept the defender on the sidelines in September and October and he clocked in 100 minutes from three matches for Daniel Farke’s side this season. The 26-year-old’s contract lasts until 2027 and Transfermarkt currently values him at €10m.
The Austrian international is open to returning to his former club, who are ready to ‘dig deep into their pockets’ to secure his services. Taking his performances from the first spell into account, the newspaper says his arrival could stabilise Red Bull Salzburg’s defence.
After a failed summer move, Salzburger Nachrichten claim Wöber’s transfer ‘could now be completed’ in January. This indicates the Austrian club are optimistic of his arrival.
