Although Manchester City are still to make Asier Riesgo’s arrival to the club official, it seems that Eibar are still looking to replace the goalkeeper.

As reported by Diario Vasco today, with claims brought by El Desmarque, the La Liga side are working to sign Diego Mariño from Sporting Gijón, because of the ‘expected departure’ of their current stopper.

Mariño is currently protected by a €3m release clause, which isn’t thought to be a problem for Eibar.

El Desmarque makes it clear that the transfer would only happen in case Riesgo’s move to Manchester City becomes official.

Riesgo is 35 years old and has never played for a top club in his career, so moving to Pep Guardiola’s side is seen as a once in a lifetime opportunity.

It’s been claimed by the Spanish media that he would arrive to give the squad more experience. His signing has been suggested by goalkeeping coach Xabier Mancisidor, then analysed by assistant manager Mikel Arteta.
