Sunderland are keen on signing RC Strasbourg’s Habib Diarra this summer.
That’s according to L’Equipe, who say Sunderland have the ‘necessary tools to successfully sign’ the midfielder.
The 21-year-old impressed for the Ligue 1 club last season and his performances haven’t gone unnoticed.
L’Equipe state he’s been in contact with several clubs and could join Sunderland. They secured a promotion to the Premier League and want to further strengthen Régis Le Bris’ squad.
The English club hope to sign the player and are already in contact with Strasbourg. Their report adds the negotiations are progressing between the two clubs to try and find an agreement.
According to the newspaper, the Sunderland management have been ‘pushing for several days’ to convince the Senegal international to move to the Stadium of Light. It’s unclear if they can be successful.
Last Tuesday, Strasbourg president Marc Keller said Diarra can leave if an interested party were to make an attractive offer.
An earlier claim from L’Equipe had reported on Leeds United making an offer for Diarra. Their latest report makes no mention of the Whites and only focuses on Sunderland, who hope to sign him.
Foot Mercato claims he’ll will leave the French club for Sunderland in the ‘coming days’. That’s because a ‘three-way agreement’ was reached between all parties late on Friday for Diarra to join Sunderland.
Le Bris’ side have decided to ‘break the bank’ to secure the player’s services for €35m including bonuses
