Tottenham have suffered a ‘major setback’ in their attempts to sign Cristian Romero from Atalanta, with recent talks failing to produce any progress.
That’s according to Gianluca di Marzio, who says negotiations between the two clubs have ‘slowed down’ after they met Friday evening.
He explains the meeting, which was planned to try and push a deal through, ‘did not have the desired effect’, and instead of an agreement, the two parties broke up.
Negotiations are not finished yet, but there is a chance they have ‘broken down’, and further contacts are planned to ‘understand the margins to patch up’ the issues.
Romero, for his part, is ‘pushing hard’ for the transfer to happen and wants to be a Tottenham player. That’s a stance he’s made clear to Atalanta.
He ‘will do everything possible’ to make the move happen, but at the minute, there is no agreement, and he will be summoned back to Atalanta on Monday.
GDM says that until Thursday evening, the parties ‘seemed close’ to an agreement, but Atalanta wanted to stall as they tried to find a replacement.
Tottenham, on the other hand, were trying to accelerate the deal by offering more than €50m to have the defender available and ready well in advance of the start of the Premier League season on August 15th.
