Manchester City are scouting Vélez Sarsfield midfielder Máximo Perrone as he continues to impress for the Argentine side.
That’s according to Ole, who say Manchester City are keeping an eye on the 19-year-old, something which could cause issues for Benfica.
The newspaper explains that the Portuguese club are already on the hunt for a potential replacement for Enzo Fernández, who is being heavily linked with a move to the Premier League after his exploits with Argentina at the World Cup.
His departure would leave a huge hole that will need to be filled and Benfica have already turned their attention to Argentina in the hope of finding the next jewel.
Perrone is a ‘candidate’ for the club but is ‘also being watched’ by Manchester City scouts, who have seemingly been keeping an eye on his performances in Argentina.
The suggestion is that they could step forward if Benfica decide to make a move for Perrone as the replacement for Fernandez.
Whether they will do so is up for debate, with Record explaining that the player is ‘in the sights’ of the Portuguese club and nothing more at this point. They see Perrone as a player to grow in the background rather than someone to immediately replace Fernandez.
They make no mention of Manchester City, whose interest in the youngster is very much coming from Argentina at this point.
It could be a situation to keep an eye on, though, as those in charge at the Etihad continue to hoover up talent from around the world.
