According to reports in the German media, Stuttgart midfielder Alexandru Maxim is on the verge of leaving the Bundesliga club.

The Romanian has been linked with a move to Leeds United in recent months, with claims the Championship are in advanced talks with the player.

Bild have reported Maxim’s spell with Stuttgart could end this summer after his problems with Hannes Wolf last season. The Romanian international struggled to get games under the Stuttgart boss, and the 26-year-old was only brought back into the team for the final matches of the campaign.

Maxim recently stated he would make a decision about his future after his friend’s wedding last weekend, and Bild believe a divorce from Stuttgart is looking likely. The German side have been linked with the likes of Ante Coric in recent weeks, and Maxim’s chances could be further limited next season.

At the weekend we covered claims from Romania, Leeds United were in talks to sign Maxim, and that a deal was close. Former boss Garry Monk initially wanted the Stuttgart midfielder following initial discussions with his agent in January.

However, Leeds United’s failure to get promotion to the Premier League could result in the club missing out on Maxim, with Bild feeling that could be a killer.
