Arsenal have long been chasing Joan García and made a €20m bid last summer, which was turned down by Espanyol.

The Spanish press has repeatedly named the Gunners as an interested party, and Wednesday’s edition of AS provides the latest as they report on Barcelona wanting the player, but him targeting a move to Arsenal.

García has been one of the standout players for the La Liga side and is attracting interest from clubs in Spain and England, where Arsenal are one of his suitors.

The newspaper claims Espanyol’s derby rivals, Barcelona, are also keen on him. They haven’t made an offer for the 24-year-old, who remains to be a desire for the future.

AS names out Mikel Arteta’s side as they are still pushing to sign soon as the season ends.

There are other Premier League clubs looking at the stopper, including Tottenham Hotspur, AFC Bournemouth, Manchester United and Manchester City.

Barca, Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen also have their eyes set on the Spaniard.

Despite interest from these clubs, the report states García is aiming for Arsenal. This now gives them a clear edge to secure his services either by activating his clause or reaching an agreement with Espanyol.

The player has a €25m release clause which will rise to €30m for the last 15 days of the transfer window. That looks like a bargain for a goalkeeper who many in Spain feel is destined for the very top.
