Flamengo’s Fabrício Bruno has told Globo Esporte that it was a personal decision to reject West Ham United’s offer.
On May 28th, Brazilian journalist Venê Casagrande said West Ham had a deal in place with Flamengo to sign the defender for €13.5m plus bonuses. The Hammers weren’t able to get this deal over the line due to the lack of an agreement with the centre-back.
Two days later, Globo Esporte stated the offer proposed by West Ham wasn’t much higher than his current salary at the Brazilian club. His current deal lasts until December 2028, and the Premier League side’s offer was until the summer of 2028.
Earlier this month, Flamengo vice-president Marcos Braz revealed that the 28-year-old wanted a move to England, but the transfer collapsed because he couldn’t agree a deal with West Ham.
Flamengo have qualified for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, and Globo asked Bruno if playing in this tournament convinced him to turn down the Premier League side’s offer. When responding to that, he refused to reveal the reason.
“It’s an extremely private decision, there will be the right moment to talk about it. What I’d like to make clear is that I’m extremely happy here and I’m going to keep working for my club,” he said.
Meanwhile, Julen Lopetegui’s side have already started looking elsewhere to strengthen their defence in the summer window.
