On August 30th, we carried a report from La Dernière Heure, who stated Standard Liège have held talks with Everton over a loan deal for Niels Nkounkou.
The Belgium club are looking to provide competition to Nicolas Gavory in the left-back position, and have identified the Toffees man as a target.
There’s seems to be a development in the operation to take the 20-yaer-old to Liège, if a report from Gianluca Di Marzio is to be believed.
It’s claimed the defender ‘leaves the English club to move to Belgium’, where he will join the Jupiler Pro League side on loan.
Gianluca Di Marzio adds Everton ‘did not want to include the option to buy’ as part of the operation, meaning it will be a dry loan deal. The player is now ‘ready’ to join the Belgian club.
Nkounkou swapped Marseille for the Merseyside club last summer and acted as backup for his compatriot, Lucas Digne, in his debut season in the Premier League.
A move to Liège is likely to improve Nkounkou’s chances of enjoying more game time this season.
