Feyenoord star David Hancko has heaped praise on manager Arne Slot, insisting that he should prove to be a success at Liverpool.
The defender has been speaking to the press at Euro 2024 in Germany, where he is currently a key player for Slovakia.
While the focus is currently on the tournament, particularly after Slovakia’s 1-0 win over Belgium in their opening game on Monday, that’s not stopped questions about Slot and Liverpool.
The Dutch coach is now officially in charge at Anfield after being announced as Jurgen Klopp’s replacement earlier this year following the German’s decision to step away from his role at Anfield.
The Dutch manager arrives with a relatively big reputation following his work in the Netherlands with Feyenoord, where he led them to the Dutch title last year and cup success this season.
Hancko knows all about him having joined the club from Sparta Prague in August 2022, making 92 appearances for Slot in that time.
He himself has been linked with a move to reunite with Slot at Liverpool this summer and certainly seems to think highly of the club, at least if his latest comments are anything to go by.
“I’m not surprised that such a big club like Liverpool has signed him (Slot),” he said.
“Hopefully within a few years he will be seen as one of the best trainers in the world. I have been fortunate to work with him over the past two years and he has helped me a lot in my development, including tactically and the system he wants to play in. That has helped me enormously.
“He is a very good coach and I wish him the best of luck. I have a feeling he will do well at Liverpool because he will now be working with better players than at Feyenoord.
“Although we have had two great seasons. This is a great move for him, and I’m not surprised that such a big club like Liverpool has signed him.”
