Despite all the drama that has surrounded the exit from Celtic of Gustaf Lagerbielke, the Brendan Rodgers outcast could still move to Lecce before the end of the transfer window.

It was revealed late on Tuesday that the Swede’s move to Italy had been put on hold after the injury to Cameron Carter-Vickers, with the Scottish side deciding whether or not to allow their centre-back leave on loan.

A report earlier on Wednesday said Celtic must give their answer to the Serie A club on Wednesday, and Corriere dello Sport corroborate that, adding that Lagerbielke himself is cheerleading the move.

They explain that the Scottish Premiership side are only expected to give their ‘definitive answer’ to Lecce later on Wednesday, who themselves have ‘long been in agreement’ with Lagerbielke about the move.

The 23-year-old is said to be ‘something of an ally’ for Lecce, because he is putting ‘constant pressure’ on Celtic to allow him to move.

The Swedish defender was signed from Elfsborg in the summer, and despite making an appearance in the first five league games of the season, he almost disappeared off the face of the earth, as Brendan Rodgers clearly didn’t like what he had seen.

Now, Lecce just have to wait, hoping that Lagerbielke is convincing enough.
