On September 27th, we relayed news from Italy that AS Roma manager José Mourinho has identified Tottenham Hotspur’s Eric Dier as a target. A day later, TV Play stated the defender’s €5m per year salary is well within the reach of the Serie A side.
The 29-year-old has a deal expiring in 2024 and his future at Tottenham beyond this season is uncertain. That’s according to Calciomercato, who mention this when discussing Roma’s interest.
It’s claimed the centre-back has ‘not yet decided’ on whether to sign a new deal at the north London club while the Giallorossi have set their sights on him following their coach’s advice.
Mourinho managed the England international at Spurs and ‘wants’ him at the Italian club, who are looking to sign him on a free transfer next summer.
Journalist Daniel Longo covered this report for Calciomercato and has provided additional details in a video, which is relayed by ASRomaLive.it.
He states Roma are planning to bolster their squad with experienced players and Dier has been identified as one of the targets. Longo adds the Spurs player, who isn’t expected to renew his deal, ‘enjoys great trust’ from Mourinho.
According to Longo, the ‘negotiation that is about to take place’ for Dier suggests that Mourinho could stay at Roma as he has started planning for next season.
Dier hasn’t made an appearance this season after being left out of Ange Postecoglou’s plans at Tottenham.
