Celta Vigo midfielder Fer López is ‘not at all happy’ about how his potential transfer to Wolverhampton Wanderers is being portrayed.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, relaying information from Radio Galega, who report that he wants it known that he’s not the bad guy he’s being presented as.
They state that the Madrid native is not at all happy with how his departure from Celta Vigo is being handled as he’s been presented as the one pushing for it. Instead, the suggestion is that it is the club pushing the deal because of their financial needs.
Estadio explain that the 21-year-old has practically completed his move to Wolves, reaching an agreement over the weekend with them. He’s currently waiting for the two clubs to finalise things.
The sale has been met with dismay by Celta fans, who had hoped that López was set for an extended stay at the club, and t suggestion has been that he was the one pushing for the move, but López and his entourage want it known that is not the case.
Radio Galega now report that López want it out there that if he is leaving, it is because Celta need the money from Wolves. In fact, they claim that the Spanish club asked him to accept Wolves’ offer.
The sale will be very beneficial for them as it’ll leave around €25m in their coffers, even if it is paid in instalments. That was Wolves preference despite it costing more than his release clause.
That is a ‘momentous’ amount for Celta either way, as they need to make up €35m in sales this summer and had already added €14m from a sale in January.
Whether they share their version of events remains to be seen but López is determined to ensure he’s not painted as the bad guy.
