On Thursday, Sky Deutschland journalist Marlon Irlbacher reported Bayer Leverkusen’s Nadiem Amiri has turned down Leeds United in favour of a move to Marseille.
Later that day, Irlbacher’s colleague at Sky, Florian Plettenberg, reported the Whites are still in the transfer race since the 26-year-old has changed his stance and is now open to joining Leeds.
The midfielder’s current deal expires in 2024 and the Bundesliga side have placed him on the exit ramp. That’s according to Friday’s Bild, who state Leverkusen value him at €6m.
With regards to his next destination, it’s claimed Amiri is ‘facing a transfer’ to Leeds after ‘much confusion’.
The Germany international was initially keen on joining the Ligue 1 side. The report states the operation to take him to Marseille ‘failed’ because they refused to meet Leverkusen’s €6m demand.
This has allowed Daniel Farke’s side to enter the race and they now seem to be winning the battle.
Another German newspaper, Rheinische Post, also explains that the player is ‘about to move’ to Elland Road in a deal for around €6m.
Operating mainly in the middle of the pitch, Amiri managed four goals and two assists from 36 games last season.
