Roberto Firmino came off the bench in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Everton on Monday and it was his first outing for the Reds since November.
The forward’s contract expires in June and his agent admitted earlier this month that there have been “really good talks” with the Merseyside club over a renewal.
That has not stopped reports linking the Liverpool player to other clubs, especially Inter Milan.
On Thursday, Gazzetta dello Sport stated the Serie A side have started contacts with the 31-year-old to sign him for free in the summer.
FcInterNews explain the Nerazzurri are following the Brazil international’s situation at the Premier League side. They are unlikely to sign him since he’s ‘destined to stay’ at Anfield as Jürgen Klopp loves him.
It’s explained ‘talks started’ between his agent and Liverpool over a new deal and these talks have been going on for several weeks. Firmino earns €8m per plus €2m bonuses per year and doesn’t intend to lower his salary.
The discussion revolves around the length of his contract. He wants a three-year deal but Liverpool are proposing two years. They could resolve it by agreeing a two-year deal with an option to further extend by a year.
The South American is in renewal negotiations with Klopp’s side and both parties intend to continue their association beyond this season.
Even if there is no agreement with Liverpool, Firmino’s salary demands make it difficult for Inter and a few other clubs outside England to match his desires.
