Following his exit from Watford, defender Samir has arrived in Mexico to sign for Tigres.
Outlet Once Diario today reports that the player already had his medical in a clinic around Obispado, and now only needs to sign his four-year contract to make the transfer complete.
Samir had a word with the Mexican media to speak about his arrival. He first talked about Tigres’ offer, claiming it was very attractive for him. And even though the Mexican side isn’t really popular in Brazil, he claims he already knew the club.
“The club are very important. The club project that was offered to me is a very important project for me, for my family,” Samir told the local press (via Once Diario).
The defender was then asked if he’s already in condition to feature for Tigres, and claimed that he couldn’t stay in shape at Watford in the past few weeks. That’s why it may take a while until he’s fit for his debut in Mexico.
“I started the pre-season but I didn’t finish it for some reasons. But now it’s time to get here, adapt, talk to the coach, find out about my condition. Because for me it is a very significant change. So first I need to talk to the staff so I can play as soon as possible.”
Samir joined Watford in a €5m deal from Udinese in January, and only made 19 appearances for the Hornets. With relegation, the defender reportedly wanted out, and the Hornets even managed to push for a profitable deal with Tigres, selling the player for €6.5m.
