Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte today features a pretty long interview with Kayky, who’s now leaving Fluminense to join Manchester City.
The Premier League side agreed a deal for the winger at the start of the year. The agreement said he’d join in January 2022, but the clubs ended up bringing the move forward.
The 18-year-old has now spoken about the transfer, and explained that he’s very excited to finally get to Manchester and start working with Manchester City’s squad.
“We had an agreement that was until the end of the year, but we weren’t able to fulfil it. They both had projects and understood that it was better for me to go now, that it was the best time. As mentioned, it was friendly,” Kayky told Globo Esporte.
“I’ve been anxious since the first time they said they had a proposal for me from Manchester City. It was my dream to work with Pep Guardiola, who I consider one of the best coaches, and every day I got closer I got more anxious. I tried to keep the focus here, I had the whole season ahead of me. But it gets closer to the presentation date, it gets that butterflies in my stomach, which always hits when we go out on the pitch. And it’s very good to feel it.”
“I started to study English, but when I did it because it was very tight, there were a lot of games, trips back and forth… When I could, I took some classes a week. It was very slow because I’d have until the end of the year, now it’s going to have to be tight (laughs).
“I had (conversations) with the football director, but with him (Guardiola) I haven’t had the opportunity directly. They have a project for me that I’m still going to sit with when I get there and see what’s best.
“Yes, with Fernandinho by phone. He’s a really cool guy, he’s going to help me a lot. I enjoyed talking to him, he received me very well, even though he doesn’t see me in person.”
He was also asked about the chance to play with and against big stars. He said he’s excited to play with Gabriel Jesus and Kevin De Bruyne, who ‘are the two he used to play more on video games’, but also talked about Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo.
“It’ll only drop there when you realise that you are working day-to-day with people you never imagined playing, that you used to watch on television, playing video games with the players themselves… And one day you can be there, play against Cristiano Ronaldo, who’s one of my idols, I have no idea about it. I think the penny will only drop when I get there.”
